Study and epizootological research of main carriers and transmitting agents of tularemia in Republic of Tajikistan

Project Status: 3 Approved without Funding
Duration in months: 24 months

Objective

The main goal of this project is to study and epizootic research the major carriers (muskrat, water rat, house mouse) and ectoparasites (ticks) of particularly dangerous infectious diseases of tularemia in Tajikistan.
Due to the fact that in the Republic the disease has not been confirmed (none scientific work nor practical studies) so the Republican Center of quarantine infection of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Tajikistan on its own initiative in 1986-1990 selectively began studying and researching prospective (floodplain wetland, riparian foothill-brook) of natural foci of tularemia, with the goal of detecting the causative agent of the disease.
These activities were carried out in Sughd and Khatlon regions of the country where according to some reports were isolated cases of human disease symptoms of tularemia. The survey covered the major carriers and carriers of the causative agent of tularemia. However, for obvious reasons, the 90s in our country many businesses including Republican Center of quarantine infection of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Tajikistan suspended its work in key areas including research.
Based on the above our center considers necessary with the permission of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Tajikistan and with the financial support of international organizations (institutions) to resume research on the detection of the causative agent of tularemia in the alleged natural foci and thereby contribute to the health history of the republic, as well as to prove the existence or absence tularemia.
In connection with the above and the facts of the executor of the project is necessary to perform the following tasks study of the study media carrier of pathogens tularemia.
Reconnaissance work with rodents (account of the number, reproduction, the study of environmental factors and so on) forecast results of reconnaissance.
Epizootology research on the alleged natural foci of tularemia. The dynamics of the number of the main carrier’s tularemia.
Field laboratory research rodents in order to detect the causative agent tularemia. Detection of microbes save the delivery in the laboratory of the republican the center of quarantine diseases for further research confirmation of the presence of the causative agent tularemia.
The results of research and confirmation of the presence of tularemia microbe must notify the Ministry of Health of the existence of a natural focus of tularemia in the territory of the Republic of Tajikistan.
