Research and development of technologies for processing waste lining electrolytic aluminum production

Project Status: 3 Approved without Funding
Duration in months: 36 months

Objective

The purpose of the project. The project will carry out applied research of physicochemical and technological bases of complex processing of waste coal and heat-insulating lining of electrolytic aluminum production.
Operation process electrolytic aluminum production is accompanied by adsorption of raw materials - soda ash , alumina , cryolite and fluorides in its coal and heat-insulating lining , followed by the release of their failure. Currently, disposal and storage of waste is a global problem , because requires significant transportation costs, large areas for storage, leads to unjustified losses contained in the waste of valuable and scarce raw materials , leading to environmental pollution. In this regard, the development of physical, chemical and technological bases of complex processing of waste coal and heat-insulating lining of electrolytic aluminum production is an urgent task metallurgical giant republic State Unitary Enterprise "Tajik Aluminum Company ".
The proposed project includes the development of methods for acid decomposition and leaching of wastes to produce alumina , cryolite , fluorides , soda ash and graphite , which will contribute to the production of aluminum raw material , improve the ecological situation in the region, would bring economic benefits. Also planned digestion and alkaline leaching process parameters set to ensure the recovery of useful components , depending on the various physic-chemical factors.
State of affairs in the field of research. At the moment, scientists and specialists - the project participants conducted laboratory studies and installed:

• chemical and mineralogical composition of coal and waste heat insulating lining electrolyzes;
• optimum conditions for extraction of useful components from the waste lining the development of technology to produce useful components that suggest the need for and feasibility of recycling waste cell lining to give valuable raw materials .
Impact of the proposed project on the progress in this field. Successful completion of the planned world applied research , i.e. Significantly reduce the amount of accumulated wastes from aluminum production due to their re-use in the new production , namely , the use of graphite electrode materials for coal , and will search for other ways to involve them in the development of so-called " non-waste and low-waste production ," making a significant contribution to improving quality of the environment .
Competence of the project in this area. SE "RIM" SUE "Talco" accepting part in the project, have a wealth of scientific expertise in recycling aluminum production.
Said scientific experience confirmed by the available publications and presentations at national and international conferences, which can be found at URL: www.inmet.tj. Other organizations also have attracted scientific developments in this field.
Expected results and their use. As a result of the project will be the first step performed by pared - State program , which provides for the widespread use of and involvement in the production of waste coal and waste heat insulating lining electrolytic production of aluminum, i.e. " Import substitution ". Given the existence in the country of all the raw materials are relatively cheap electricity and labor, according to forecast the cost estimates prepared graphite is almost two times lower than the cost of imported graphite. Thus, in the production with an annual capacity of 50,000 tons of graphite will employ more than 30 people , which makes it possible not only to employ weapons scientists , but also the local population partly to reduce social tension in the region.
The project meets the ISTC. Since the draft busy professionals with expertise in the field of weapons project itself has exclusively peaceful purposes, it is consistent with the objectives of the ISTC. Also, compliance with these goals achieved by the planned involvement of scientists from organizations participating in the global scientific community by providing
information on the project at international conferences and seminars.
Data on the volume of work. The project will be carried out the following main activities:
• Study the volume, composition and properties of hard coal and heat-insulating lining of electro- industrial waste Lieser SUE "Talco" using chemical, X-ray diffraction and differential thermal analysis techniques.
• The chemical and mineralogical composition of the waste coal and heat-insulating lining of electrolytic aluminum production.
• Study of useful components in fractions of waste coal and heat insulation footers matches electrolytic aluminum production.
• Determination of optimal processing conditions in the coal and waste heat insulating foot -focusing depending on the various physic-chemical factors.
• Development of fundamental technological scheme and establishment of optimum process conditions.
Role of foreign collaborators. To participate in the project are invited as collaborators research institutes , private firms and companies, as well as individual experts from the European com-munity , SITA , Japan and Norway . The following forms of participation of foreign collaborators in this project:
1. Joint work on individual areas of the project.
2. Exchange of information during the project.
3. Joint workshops, meetings, consultations.
4. Joint promotion of developed technologies to the market.
Technical approach and methodology.
The main innovation in work will be the development and implementation of new technologies for processing solid wastes of aluminum that will be returned in the production of their valuable raw components and improve the ecological situation in the region.
New technologies will be developed taking into account the volume, composition, content of valuable components and other impurities in the waste. This will provide for measures to ensure the recovery and neutralization of gaseous emissions from waste processing, as well as measures taken by ensuring explosion, fire and personal protection personnel.
