On November 7-9, 2022, an online “Training the Trainers Workshop” was held in Bishkek for professors from the International University of Kyrgyzstan and the Kyrgyz National University named after Jusup Balasagyn who are involved in the implementation of an academic program on Strategic Trade Control (STC).

The purpose of the Training the Trainers Workshop was to share best practices and lessons learned for teachers and researchers seeking to improve their skills in understanding the principles of STC.

 

During this workshop, participants learned about current issues and trends in policy, regulations, enforcement, and legislation regarding international trade compliance, and learned about international experiences in developing and implementing education and research projects in the field of Strategic Trade Control (STC). The training was attended by experts from the European Union, Ukraine and Kazakhstan: Dr. Jean Pascal Zander, Prof. Maria Espona, Prof. Quentin Michel, Dr. Vladimir Davydovsky, Prof. Tamara Tazhibaeva and PhD. Kamshat Saginbekova.

 

The training helped the University professors to develop a common understanding of how to teach the academic program on Strategic Trade Controls and to better understand the Export Control system and international nonproliferation obligations

 

This Workshop was organized by the International Science and Technology Center (ISTC) in cooperation with the Export Control Center (Bishkek) in the framework of the EU-funded CBRN Targeted Initiative on Export Controls of Dual-Use Materials and Technologies.
