Oman Strengthens National Preparedness for CBRN and Hazardous Materials Incidents Through Specialized Medical Response Workshop

From 10 to 13 November 2025, in Muscat, Oman, the Ministry of Health of the Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Emergency Management Center, in close cooperation with the Civil Defense and Ambulance Authority of Oman, successfully conducted a four-day national workshop on medical response to chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosive (CBRNE) incidents. The event was supported by the European Union’s Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Risk Mitigation Centres of Excellence Initiative (EU CBRN CoE) and the International Science and Technology Center (ISTC).

The workshop brought together doctors, paramedics, emergency nurses, and first responders to strengthen their operational readiness for emergencies involving hazardous materials. Through a combination of theoretical sessions and hands-on field exercises, participants enhanced their skills in detection, decontamination, medical coordination, and multi-agency response.

Experts from Oman and the European Union guided the training, sharing advanced methodologies and revisiting lessons learned from past emergency events to reinforce safety for both responders and the public.

ISTC was honored to support the workshop and provide expert contribution aimed at elevating national response capabilities. The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region is a key partner in advancing collective preparedness and ISTC looks forward to further strengthening cooperation to address evolving CBRN threats.
