The Kazakh-British Technical University (KBTU) together with the Central Asian Institute for Development Studies (CAIDS) conducted a series of executive trainings entitled "International Trade and Sanctions Compliance", for local professionals and experts in Astana and Almaty on 16-18 October.
 
These events were funded by the European Union and supported by the ISTC. Among the participants were specialists from enterprises and university staff representing such organizations as: CNPC-Aktobemunaigas, HorecTech, law firm “Bukva Zakona”, CILT Central Asia, Kazakh-German University, Academy of Logistics and Transport, and the Academy of Civil Aviation. Instructors included Tamara Tazhibaeva, who is a member of the ISTC project team responsible for the development of Internal Compliance Programs (ICP) for enterprises, Galym Makhmejanov and Askhat Nametsha, representatives from CAIDS.
 
On the first day, a training for top managers from the Chinese oil company CNPC took place in Astana, where Askhat Nametsha spoke about international trade compliance risk evaluation. Another training for the faculty staff of the Almaty universities took place at the Kazakh-British Technical University. Professor Tamara Tazhibayeva introduced the main models of the Internal Compliance Programs (ICP) for universities and stressed their importance in gaining access to advanced knowledge and technologies. Later Dr. Galym Makhmejanov shared real compliance cases with strategic trade control requirements. Workshop participants expressed interest in participating in a project to introduce strategic trade control in educational and research programs.
 
Finally, the speakers held executive training for business community representatives about current problems and trends in politics, regulations, law enforcement practice, legislation, and international experience in strategic trade control.

The instructors also discussed the advantages of introducing ICP for enterprises of Kazakhstan to prevent negative consequences for business.
