ISTC Strengthens Cooperation with Uzbekistan in Industrial, Radiation and Nuclear Safety

September 25th

The International Science and Technology Center (ISTC) has reaffirmed its commitment to deepening collaboration with the Republic of Uzbekistan in the fields of industrial, radiation, and nuclear safety, as well as broader CBRN risk mitigation.

The reaffirmation follows a recent visit of the ISTC delegation to Tashkent on September 25, during which representatives of the Center met with the Committee for Industrial, Radiation and Nuclear Safety (IRNS) under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan, alongside other national institutions and research organizations.

The mission took place in the framework of the Regional Workshop on the Implementation of the Biological Weapons Convention in Central Asia and Mongolia, where ISTC actively participated as part of its ongoing support to strengthen biosafety and biosecurity capacities in the region. The visit also included meetings with leading Uzbek research institutions, such as the Institute of Microbiology, and fruitful exchanges on future scientific cooperation.

ISTC Executive Director Ms. Karina Anguelieva expressed appreciation for the productive dialogue and the coordination efforts of Mr. Otabek Kasimov, whose role was instrumental in organizing the workshop and facilitating communication between both sides.

Looking ahead, ISTC announced the upcoming 2nd Inter-Regional Meeting of the EU CBRN CoE Project 101 “Enhancement of CBRN Critical Infrastructure Protection and (Cyber)Security in South-East and Eastern Europe, Central Asia and the Middle East”, to be held in Tashkent from 1 to 3 December 2025. The event, funded by the European Commission and implemented by ISTC, will bring together National Focal Points, regional experts, and international organizations to assess progress, exchange views on hybrid security challenges, and plan the next phase of implementation.

“This renewed dialogue opens the way for new joint initiatives and reinforces our shared objectives of advancing CBRN safety, research, and innovation across Central Asia.”
