ISTC met with the representatives of Governmental bodies and Agencies in Dushanbe, Tajikistan
On 24-25 July 2023 David Cleave, ISTC Executive Director and Aidyn Turebayev, ISTC’s transiting Deputy Executive Director visited Dushanbe, Tajikistan and had meetings with the ISTC Branch Office who had arranged meetings with representatives of Governmental bodies and Agencies.
A meeting was held with the Professor Farhod Rahimov, ISTC’s and Tajikistan’s Governing Board Member and President of the Tajikistan Academy of Sciences, introducing Azizakhon Haidarova the new ISTC Tajik Branch Office Manager and to discuss ISTC’s current activities and future plans.
The second meeting was held at CBRN Safety & Security Agency with Director Ilhom Mirsaidzoda, who is also the EU CBRN CoE Tajikistan National Focal Point. The parties discussed the progress on the EU Project 87 on Mass Gatherings as well as current activities in Export Control on dual use technologies and EU Sanctions. The Agency also advised on the activity of Nuclear Forensic in the light of the Center opening a Forensics Laboratory (CBRN Forensics and Capacity building Center), in Dushanbe which will be used regionally with other Central Asian Countries.
The third meeting was a courtesy visit with Mr. Firuz Kosimov, Head of International and Regional Organisation at the Tajikistan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to reacquaint the MFA with ISTC’s changes in personnel as well as updating the MFA on ISTC’s current and future activities and discussing Tajikistan’s Government’s current scientific priorities and where ISTC may play a future role in assisting Tajikistan in these areas.
During the visit Mr. Cleave and Mr. Turebayev also congratulated Mr. Mukhabatsho Khikmatov, who is now stepping aside as a Branch Manager into an Advisory role to ISTC Tajikistan Branch Office, after serving ISTC for 20 years as a Branch Manager, in fact ever since the Branch Office was first opened. The Executive Director presented a service award plaque, emphasizing and thanking Mr. Khikmatov for his significant contribution and service to ISTC and championing ISTC in Tajikistan over these past 20 years.
