ISTC and the Kyrgyz National University named after J. Balasagyn organised an event on the Presentation of Master Programs in Strategic Trade Controls (STC)

On 25 August 2023, the Kyrgyz National University named after Jusup Balasagyn hosted an event on the Presentation of Master Programs in Strategic Trade Controls (STC). These academic programs were developed at leading Kyrgyz universities in cooperation with the Center on Export Controls (CEC) and the International Science and Technology Center (ISTC) with the financial support of the European Union (EU).
 
The Master Programs presented were:
 
- “STC, International and Customs Law” at the Department of "Jurisprudence and Customs", Faculty of Law of the Kyrgyz National University.
- "STC in public and business structures of the economy" at the Department of "Management and Economics of the non-profit educational institution Educational, Scientific and Production Complex "International University of Kyrgyzstan" (IUK).
 
Implementation of Master Programs on Strategic Trade Control (STC) will make it possible to train new specialists and experts for the country, competent in identifying threats, risks and violations of legislation in the field of export control and foreign economic activity, and raise awareness of employees of companies, organizations and government officials on STC issues.
 
The participants were welcomed by Prof. Tolobek Abdrakhmanov, Rector of the Kyrgyz National University, Prof. Elena Savchenko, Rector of the International University of Kyrgyzstan and Dr. Hendrik Visser, ISTC Senior Project Manager. At the event, Prof. Ashat Nametsha, Director of CAIDS, Jyldyz Sydygalieva, Director of the Center on Export Controls, Nurjamal Sarseitova, Associate Professor of the Department of Law and Customs of KNU, Elena Zenina, Head of the Department of Management and Economics, Associate Professor of IUK and others shared their experience in implementing educational projects in the field of STC.
The closing speech was delivered by Prof Maria Espona, Project Manager for EU-funded Targeted Initiative on Export Control of Dual-Use Materials and Intangible Technologies, which is implemented through the ISTC.
 
The event was also attended by representatives of the Ministry of Economy and Commerce of the Kyrgyz Republic, Ministry of Defense of the Kyrgyz Republic, Ministry of Finance of the Kyrgyz Republic, Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic, State Customs Service of the Kyrgyz Republic, representatives of the business community, faculty of KNU and IUK.
 
This event was organized by the Export Control Center (Bishkek) within the framework of the EU-funded Targeted Initiative on Export Controls of Dual-Use Materials and Technologies.
