ISTC and EU CBRN CoE Support North Macedonia in Advancing Critical Infrastructure Protection

8-9 October 2025 - Consultation visit to North Macedonia ????
As part of the EU-funded CBRN CoE P101, a successful consultation visit to North Macedonia was conducted to assess national capabilities in the protection and (cyber-) security of CBRN-critical infrastructures.
Over two intensive days (8-9 October 2025), the P101 Experts - Deputy Team Leader Scott S. and Security Expert Pierre Goetz - met with key institutions across chemical, biological, radiological/nuclear (CBRN) and Cybersecurity:

North Macedonia demonstrates strong commitment to hashtag CBRN & hashtag Cybersecurity preparedness with:
?? A comprehensive radiological monitoring network of 12 stations connected to the EU database with real-time data updates (every 20 minutes)
?? A newly adopted National Cybersecurity Strategy (2025-2028) and a cybersecurity law transposing the NIS 2 directive
?? Established Crisis Management Centre coordinating emergency response through 35 regional centers
?? National CERT providing services to 150 constituents with plans for a governmental CERT operational in 2026
A dedicated session explored the integration of hashtag innovative hashtag technologies into critical infrastructure protection, including space-based technologies and satellite imagery for vulnerability mapping and risk assessment. North Macedonia also plays an active role in regional capacity building, having organized biosafety and biosecurity training for experts from Bosnia & Herzegovina, Montenegro, Serbia, and Moldova.
The visit also focused on refining an open-source assessment report and identifying three national experts to support the next phase of project implementation.
