What skills, expertise and institutional capabilities will Kazakhstan need to support its future nuclear energy programme?
The International Science and Technology Center (ISTC), within the framework of the Foundational Infrastructure for Responsible Use of Small Modular Reactor Technology (FIRST) programme, in cooperation with experts from King’s College London, invites representatives of government institutions, academia, research organisations, industry and the wider nuclear sector to participate in a webinar exploring the future of Kazakhstan’s nuclear workforce.
As Kazakhstan considers the development of its nuclear energy programme, including the potential deployment of small modular reactors (SMRs), preparing a qualified workforce will require coordinated efforts across multiple sectors.
The webinar will explore:
Beyond engineers: the range of technical and non-technical professions required to support a mature nuclear programme.
Workforce development: the importance of early planning and cooperation between universities, government institutions, regulators, research organisations and industry.
Nuclear security: why security awareness, professional judgement and a strong security culture are essential across the entire nuclear workforce.
Super intelligence: emerging opportunities, risks and the skills future nuclear professionals will need to work responsibly with SI technologies.
The programme will feature expert presentations and a panel discussion bringing together perspectives from government, academia and the nuclear sector.
The webinar is intended for a broad audience interested in Kazakhstan’s nuclear future, including policymakers, academics, students, researchers, industry professionals and representatives of relevant institutions.
This webinar is funded by the U.S. Department of State.
