Registration now is open for the international conference “Future Challenges of Biosafety and Biosecurity”

The International Science and Technology Center (ISTC), in cooperation with the National Scientific Center of Especially Dangerous Infections named after Masgut Aikimbayev, the Biosafety Association of Central Asia and the Caucasus (BACAC), and the German Biosecurity Programme through GIZ, is pleased to announce the upcoming international conference “Future Challenges of Biosafety and Biosecurity”.

The event will take place in Almaty, Kazakhstan on 15–16 October 2025.
The conference will bring together leading biosafety and biosecurity experts, researchers, and policymakers from Central Asia, the Caucasus, the Eastern Partnership, and the broader international community to address pressing biological risks and global biosecurity challenges. In this year marking the 50th anniversary of the Biological Weapons Convention (BWC), increased attention is paid to its strengthening and institutionalization.


Key topics include:
·  Advances in synthetic biology and gene editing (e.g., CRISPR-Cas9)
·  AI in bioengineering and pathogen design
·  Mirror biology as a novel class of biological threats
·  Democratization of biotechnology and access to genetic engineering tools
·  Digitalization and the security of genetic data
·  Emerging bioterrorism threats and new risk vectors
·  Climate change impacts on disease surveillance and biosecurity
·  Ethical, legal, and regulatory frameworks in biosafety and biosecurity

Organizations are invited to nominate one or two experts whose knowledge and experience will make a valuable contribution to the conference discussions.
