Workshop: Challenges of Scientific and Technological Evolution for Export Control Systems

On 24-25 May 2018 a Workshop will take place at the Hilton Astana, “Challenges of Scientific and Technological Evolution for Export Control Systems”.

This seminar is part of a new Targeted Initiative, “CBRN Export Control on Dual-Use Materials and Intangible Technologies in Central Asia,” which builds on the achievements of the successful EU Partner-to-Partner (PTP) pilot project: Dual Use Items for Jordan and Kazakhstan.  This effort is funded by the EU Instrument contributing to Stability and Peace (IcSP) that has already supported enhancing the effectiveness of the export control system of dual-use items and technologies in Kazakhstan.  The current Targeted Initiative seeks to regionalize these positive results by geographic and thematic enlargement that would include ten countries in Central Asia and neighbor regions: Afghanistan, Armenia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.

The Workshop, the second activity under this Targeted Initiative, will engage participants in working groups, according to their specialty organization. The working groups will be devoted to the discussion and analysis of the different aspects and impact of the export control on the following communities: research, industry, academia and government.

There will also side events, including a Panel discussion at the Academic Diplomatic club at the KAZGUU University, and group visit on the last day to the V International Exhibition of Weapons Systems and Military Equipment KADEX-2018.
