Ms. Aigul Solovyova Chairperson of the Board of the Association of Environmental Organizations of Kazakhstan Visits ISTC Main Office

On 30 May 2019 ISTC Executive Director David Cleave welcomed at the Organization’s headquarters in Nur-Sultan a delegation of the Association of Environmental Organizations of Kazakhstan (AEOK), led by the Chairperson of its Board, Ms. Aigul Solovyova. The two officials exchanged information on the priorities of the respective organizations, and examined possible venues for cooperation.

AEOK pays great attention to involvement of the research and scientific communities in the various projects implemented by the ecological organizations that comprise the membership of the Association. In its approaches to the industry AEOK spread the message that “greening” the economy goes hand in hand with new environmentally friendly technologies.

On its part ISTC develops water projects that seek to monitor water pollution of rivers that travers uranium legacy sites. Through its respective Targeted Initiatives ISTC plans to increase its contribution to the use of clean and renewable sources of energy.

Both ISTC and AEOK recognize the centrality of Kazakhstan in the region and the importance of applying regional, multi-country approaches, when facing challenges of trans-boundary nature, such as the rehabilitation of the Aral Sea area.

The meeting was also attended by Mr. Yeldos Abaranov, AEOK Deputy Chairman of the Board, Mr. Ruslan Kazkenov, International cooperation manager, and Kamen Velichkov, ISTC SPM and Diplomatic Advisor.
