"Creating our Future" conference during 4-5 September, 2017

The Future Energy Forum of Astana EXPO-2017 marks a new and pioneering chapter in the story of global discussions on dealing with consequences of an undeniable climate change and the role of renewable energy. Being the host of Astana EXPO-2017, Kazakhstan is at the forefront of future energy development. The Future Energy Forum is designed to inform, inspire and innovate, to foster participation and exchange, and to actively create a global platform for a global future of renewable energy.

The Astana EXPO-2017, by adopting the theme of “future energy”, signifies the importance of defining the pathway by which various parts of the world must move towards a sustainable energy future.

This 12th and final conference, taking place on September 4th – 5th, is an extensive interaction with the activities, visions, technologies, and interdisciplinary dialogue of the Astana EXPO-2017 Future Energy Forum. Current national and international former heads of state, Nobel laureates, leading experts of science and industry –the world’s energy community– assemble to accumulate and exemplify the ideas, knowledge, and solutions presented and developed throughout all 12 conferences of the forum.

On September 4th, the 12th Future Energy Forum “Creating Our Future” starts with a Grand Opening consisting of public representatives of the Republic of Kazakhstan, international politicians and scientists, Nobel laureates, and members of the International Steering Committee.

The 12th Future Energy Forum “Creating Our Future” calls for action. Until this edition of the Future Energy Forum the Steering Committee –a network of high-profile Kazakh and international climate leaders and experts representing politics and science– has been providing valuable support and advice in regards of expertise and know-how and has been drafting the Astana EXPO-2017 Manifesto of Values and Principles together with the results and findings of the series of conferences.

Besides expert plenary sessions, keynotes, and workshops made up of top-class experts, in addition five working sessions on various chapters of the Manifesto of Values and Principles takes place throughout the two conference days.

They are clustered around the main focal points of the past eleven Future Energy Forums, namely New Business Models & Financing; Technology; Education, Participation & Collaboration; Urban Future & Mobility and Transparency & Participation – Politics, Economy & Power. National and international experts as well as public representatives are invited to share their expertise and thoughts on the certain working table topic before entering a lively and topic-focused discussion. Furthermore, the Manifesto draft was discussed during each working table session benefiting from the unique opportunity the Astana EXPO-2017 offers in terms of concentrating knowledge, expertise and experience from all over the globe and the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Concluding the Future Energy Forum, validating its principles and underlying foundations, is the preview of the Astana EXPO-2017 Manifesto of Values and Principles. Together they formalize the outlook and legacy of the Astana EXPO-2017 Future Energy Forum.

In the closing ceremony of the Future Energy Forum on September 5th, members of the Steering Committee such as Prof Klaus Töpfer, Founding Director of the Institute for Advanced Sustainability Studies (IASS), or Dr Rajendra Pachauri, President of the World Sustainable Development Forum, delivered the Manifesto draft to Akhmetzhan Yessimov, Chairman of the Board at NC Astana EXPO-2017.
