Objective

Objective
The ISTC’s Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) and ISTC Branch Office in Yerevan will organize a two-day SAC seminar in Yerevan, Armenia for at least 35 technical experts from Armenia’s nuclear scientific and technical community, academia, and government agencies such as Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure, Armenian Nuclear Regulatory Authority, Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport , National Academy of Sciences, the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant (ANPP), and nuclear energy utility company.

Leveraging the ISTC’s global networks, funding base, and experience in providing nuclear security capacity-building, the seminar will focus on nuclear security, safety, safeguards, proliferation resistance, and regulatory considerations associated with small modular reactors (SMRs) and other advanced nuclear reactor designs approaching market deployment. The U.S will provide seminar trainers funded via other mechanisms under the FIRST program. The seminar curriculum and program will strengthen awareness and frame these issues and the associated problem set with stakeholders, including appropriate representatives from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and subject-matter experts from SAC participating countries.

Thereafter, the ISTC will administer a microgrant competition for no fewer than three CTR funded capacity-building grants to be implemented by Armenian SMEs who will engage the Armenian nuclear sector more broadly on these topics via workshops and the collaborative

The ISTC Branch Office will work to identify relevant, locally based Armenian seminar participants and will arrange event logistics including venue, catering, interpretation/translation, materials, and IT support. The ISTC will also assist ISN/CTR and SAC members in developing the seminar agenda, will administer the subsequent microgrant competition, and will oversee microgrant implementation.
