ISTC Supports the 2025 International TB Portals Consortium Meeting in Chisinau, Moldova
16–18 December 2025, Chisinau, Republic of Moldova
The International Science and Technology Center (ISTC) supported the 2025 International Tuberculosis (TB) Portals Consortium held from 16 to 18 December 2025 in Chisinau, Republic of Moldova. The meeting brought together leading scientists, clinicians, data scientists, and public health experts from TB Portals partner countries to review progress, exchange experience, and define future priorities of the TB Portals Program.
The TB Portals Program, an initiative of the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) through the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), represents a unique global platform integrating clinical, radiological, genomic, and epidemiological data on mostly drug-resistant tuberculosis. Through ISTC support, experts from Member States (the United States of America, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Georgia) and other countries actively contribute to this collaborative effort, strengthening national capacities while advancing international research on tuberculosis prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.
During the Consortium meeting, participants reviewed program-wide scientific and technical updates, including advances in bioinformatics, artificial intelligence-based image analysis, and whole genome sequencing. Country project reports highlighted national contributions and demonstrated how locally generated data are translated into broader scientific and public health impact. The agenda also included interactive workshops and feedback sessions aimed at improving data quality, interoperability, and sustainability of the TB Portals platform.
ISTC emphasized the strategic importance of the TB Portals Program for its Member States, particularly in addressing the persistent challenge of multidrug-resistant and extensively drug-resistant tuberculosis. By facilitating access to advanced research infrastructures, promoting open scientific exchange, and fostering long-term international partnerships, the program contributes to evidence-based decision-making and strengthens national and regional responses to TB.
The 2025 Consortium reaffirmed the value of the TB Portals Consortium as a trusted framework for multilateral scientific cooperation. ISTC reiterated its commitment to supporting collaborative projects that combine cutting-edge science with tangible public health benefits, in line with its mandate to promote international science and technology partnerships for global security and sustainable development.
