Project summaryThe purpose of the project is to develop, manufacture and perform clinical tests of operating mock-up of apparatus & program complex for treatment of prostatitis, adenoma and carcinoma of prostate by using controllable local thermotherapy (CLTT).
The common disadvantage of CLTT methods being used is complexity of control and monitoring of local temperature under action of electromagnetic radiation on the prostate, the necessity of using a cooling system to remove surplus heat from mucous membrane of urethra and rectum, as well as from the seminal vesicle zone and sphincter of urinary bladder.
Besides, these methods do not provide formation of local thermal diagram of directivity which is uniform from the viewpoint of temperature conditions. The proposed medical complex provides the operation on frequency of few tens MHz with deep and uniform thermal diagram at the expense of high penetrating power of this radiation at the given frequency. The use of catheter made of special radioparent material does not require cooling of mucous membrane of urethra. Localization of heating and temperature control, both in the prostatic part of urethra, and beyond this part, is provided by thermal electrode of original design.
Realization of the project will allow to develop, manufacture and test under clinical conditions the operating mock-up of medical apparatus, parameters of which will surpass the best foreign models, such as ET 100 ("WIPO" FRG / Italy), THERMEX-II ("DIREX", Israel), etc. The apparatus will improve radically the results of treatment of patients with chronic prostatitis, innocent and malignant tumors of prostate, as well as will allow the economic costs of the treatment of such patients to be reduced by a factor of 3 - 4.
From the scientific point of view, realization of the project will allow to investigate the character of the treatment process under the action of “soft” electromagnetic radiation on prostate tumors.
From the commercial point of view, a high demand for such equipment is to be expected not only in Russia, but also abroad, because currently there are no analogs and the treatment can be carried out in ambulatory conditions during 2 - 3 (two - three) one-hour procedures
The application for a patent on the proposed curative complex (“Device for treatment of tumors”) is being considered at VNIIGPE. Priority of 13.02.1997, № 9710797.
The scope of work within the framework of the project envisages intermediate and final reports on scientific and technical development of the complex, manufacture of its operating mock-up and its testing under clinical conditions at the Ural State Advanced Training Institute for Doctors.
