Project summary

The results of the Project fulfilment can be used as a fundamental basis for systematic l studies on development of principally new antituberculosis drugs and determination of the relation between the structure of the new compound and its antimicrobial activity, which can provide design of new generation antibiotics with higher specific antibacterial activity and improved pharmacotoxicological properties.

The Project, implementation provides synthesis of original compounds not described earlier, i.e. combinations (hybrid structures of cephalosporins with fluoroquinolons, rifamycins with fluoroquinolones, macrolides and others). The results can be later useful in development of rational regimens for therapy of tuberculosis and other mycobacterioses. The new synthesized compounds could have unique properties, novelty and be patented.

The Project is of great scientific and social importance and can make a great scientific and practical contribution to the solution of the most actual problem of the modern medicine, i.e. the control of mycobacteria resistance, which will enable to widen the possibilities of tuberculosis prophylaxis and therapy. The Project implementation will significantly contribute to the solution of one of the most socially important problems of the reorientation of the science interests and the use of the scientific and creative potential of the scientists, engineers and technical workers, previously employed in weapons industry, in fundamental and applied studies in the field of chemistry, biology, biochemistry and medicine for peaceful purposes within the international community of science.

A many-year practical and theoretical experience of the Project participants in synthesis of new antibiotics, their isolation, purification and the structure assignment, as well as in evaluation of chemotherapeutic efficacy of new antibiotics and study of pharmacotoxicological properties of the new drugs before their use in medical practice is a real basis for the achievement of the Project aim.

NRCA employs scientists and technical workers of high qualification and has the required laboratory rooms, vivarium and equipment.
