Project summary

The project is devoted to complex experimental and theoretical researches of dynamic magnetic permeability, reflectance and electromagnetic waves velocity in magnetoordered solid states (ferro-, antiferro-, ferrimagnetics) in the regions of orientation phase transitions and various resonance (ferromagnetic, magneto acoustic, and magnetostatic). The project is undertaken in interests of the progress of microelectronics, microwave technology and science of materials.

The purpose of the project is the search for the particular magnetoordered materials, which are the most acceptable for wide range control of their reflection and/or transparency (in theoretical limit from 0 to 1) and electromagnetic waves propagation velocity, in an ultrahigh frequency, submillimeter and optical range. Another purpose of the work is the search for conditions (temperature, mechanical tension, external magnetostatic fields) when anomalous electromagnetic properties behavior appears. The third purpose of the project is basic theoretic and experimental investigation of electromagnetic properties of magnetoordered substances with orientational phase transitions and search for new effects of interactions between EMW and subsystems of the substance.

The main idea of the project follows from the fact, which was discovered by the authors of the project, that in the vicinity of orientation phase transition the interaction of subsystems of magnetically ordered substances becomes so significant that, defines completely a statics, dynamics, kinetics and non-linear properties of magnetics, on the contrary to usual situation. As a result, the magnetic permeability behavior of the substance becomes anomalous, which in turn leads to anomalous reduction of EMW velocity and anomalously large or anomalously small reflectance of the substance in the proper conditions. Another idea of the project is to use amplification of interaction of EMW and substance in resonance conditions (in the vicinity of ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic resonances etc.).

This project is the base project for a wide spectrum of applications such as microwave devices with large dynamic range of reflectivity, delay lines free from a signal conversion to a wave of another physical nature and back and therefore having small losses, new measurement technologies and controlled media design.
