Project summary

The problems of a natural environment protection acquire of engineering and realization of programs on closed loops of water supply for industry and integrated remaking of natural and foul waters. It cannot be made without effective means and methods for verification of pollution and toxicity for the aqueous medium.

There are a large number of methods for the analysis of liquid dispersion mediums. Definite advantages have the devices (for example, Parmaquantum, Germanium) used in medical researches. Method of a microelectrophoresis, electron-optic and television systems of observation, also computer-based processing of the television image are used in these devices, that allows to calculate electrokinetic properties of a disperse phase. However these devices differ by complexity and expensive, their processing speed it is not enough for purification control and they are not intended for toxicity test.

The aim of the project is creation of the method and design of device for operating inspection on toxicity and aqueous medium pollution, control of process for water purification and warning of emergency conditions.

The proposed device differs original software on the basis of correlation processing for the television image and simple construction. The device is intended, first of all, for determination of parameters necessary for purification process control. The device actualizes a method of aqueous mediums toxicity determining, secured by the Copyright Certificate № 1597722 of Russia from 08.09.1990, according to which the toxicity is determined on test-objects motion velocity in constant electric field.

The device has the following advantages:

– universality providing possibility for the analysis both toxicity and pollutions with the purpose of purification, and also possibility of research for polymer properties, the regular units of blood and other disperse systems;


– processing speed owing to automatic processing of the television image at real-time;
– relative simplicity and low prices.

Methodological, technical and program decisions realized at a technique of digital processing for the television image and calculation of control actions are in the basis of the scientific and technical approach and the methodology of developments for the project. The latest attainments in the field of a systems engineering, computer science, computer technology, communication science and data transfer, and also methods of a structural design will be used.

Infusoria Tetrahimena pyriformis are used for toxicity research as tests-objects. For a control of pollutions the method of a microelectrophoresis is used which ensure determination of zeta-potential (ZP) for dispersible corpuscles necessary for calculation of an optimum dose of flocculant during purification.

The visualization of processes in the researched medium is ensured with the help of the electron-optical device, TV-camera and video monitor, which secure increase about 1,000. Automatic (with the use of a personal computer) processing of video signal makes it possible to determine operatively the following:

– sedimentation velocity of a disperse phase;


– size of microscopic objects;
– electroconductivity of disperse system;
– toxicity of the aqueous mediums.

The leading experts in the area: of high technologies, correlation processing of the television images, automatic control, which earlier made armament and defense technology, and also the experts in the area of water supply and sewerage having scientific degrees, proceedings and inventions are the participants of the project.

The works, fulfilled at the project, completely corresponds to the aims and tasks of ISTC for support of applied researches in an ecology and will allow by the scientist and experts concerned with development of the weapon to reorient the abilities to peace activity in the area of a natural environment protection.

At commercialization of work results the creation and advancements to the market of a production device for process control of purification and organization of its repetition work at the price of the order 10 thousand dollars are intended. The sales perspective amount is defined in thousands of laboratories for ecological control, industrial enterprises having polluted waters.

Foreign collaborators and partners are invited to cooperation in works on the project. The participation is not limited to exchange of the technological information only, but may consist in co-operation or parallel researches with usage of identical or similar diagnostic equipment. The cooperation will be more effective, if the level of interest will allow the partners to find own sources of financing.
