Project summary

General idea about formation of dispersion hydrocarbons (HC) around oil and gas fields has appeared in the beginning of XX century. With the help of direct investigations of HC characteristic it is possible to provide oil fields searching.

Wish to use effective direct geochemical methods for a search of oil fields is great, first of all, because of their cheapness. Here there is no, for example, a necessity of revealing oil base by usual geochemical methods. Hence, it is not necessary to make expensive deep drilling of oil wells, to select core and to study its geochemical properties.

The geochemical searches of traces of oil and gas dispersion include a number of so-called direct methods distinguished both by the form of research object (a snow cover; surface, undersurface and depth water layer; surface, undersurface and embedded on different depth from the ground deposits and rocks; atmosphere gases and lithosphere and so on), and by certain geochemical parameters (contents and structure of sorbate hydrocarbons; the contents of the certain secondary minerals; the contents some macro- and microelements; presence and quantity of specific microorganisms capable to assimilate hydrocarbons; values of reductive-oxidative potential and parameter of hydrogen ions concentration etc.)

In spite of the fact that more than 50 years have passed from the first publications of Professor V.А. Sokolov who found direct gas-geochemical methods of oil and gas deposits searching, still there are problem questions in area of oil and gas searching geochemistry. It is paradoxical, but these questions are associated with great progress in analytical engineering - basically in methods of Gas-Liquid Chromatography (GLC) and Chromato-Mass-Spectrometry (CMS). Thanks to analytical methods of Gas-Liquid Chromatography (GLC) and Chromato-Mass-Spectrometry (CMS) it is possible to investigate at a molecular level not only hydrocarbons (HC), but also getero-nuclear components of oils, organic substance of solids, deposits and soils. More "deep" researches have shown that it is rather difficult to give correct interpretation of geochemical data and to provide direct reference of geochemical anomalies to hydrocarbons deposits in the earth.

The numerous researches of surface sediments samples carried out by participants of the Project earlier by methods gas-liquid chromatography (GLC) and chromato-mass-spectrometry (CMS) have shown, that a number of light and heavy hydrocarbons, which have external similarity with hydrocarbons of oil deposit "breath" occur in surface sediments (soils and solid). These hydrocarbons can be easily confused with hydrocarbons of oil deposit "breath", that sharply and repeatedly reduces efficiency of oil deposits searching.

At study of the surface sediments (soils and solid) of Western Siberia (from no more 15m depth) the participants of the Project developed the new geochemical criteria (factors) allowing with the help of gas-liquid chromatography and chromato-mass- spectrometry methods to make differentiation of hydrocarbon component of dispersed organic substance of surface soils and to give the conclusion about an opportunity to find oil deposits.

In the frame of the early executed works, the analysis of more than 1000 samples of the surface sediments, selected in different fields of Western Siberia was carried out, and the interpretation of the received results was also provided. Under works realization it was shown, that the percentage of concurrence of the revealed "breath" areas of oil fields to areas specified by deep drilling is from 70 % up to 100 %.

Theoretical and experimental researches performed earlier by mathematics, geologists, soil experts, hydrogeologists, geochemists, chemists of RSU of Oil and Gas and RFNC-VNIIEF allows now to develop the effective Technique of search of oil deposits by the method of direct geochemical researches of oil deposits “breathing”.

During performance of the proposed project it is planned to carry out the literary review, to provide a cycle of researches, to classify the received results of works carried out before and based on the received results to develop the Technique of search of oil deposits by the method of direct geochemical researches of oil deposits «breathing».

The technique, developed during the Project, will allow not only to give quantitative probability rating of oil deposits in researched region, but as a whole with other complex methods of oil deposits searching (space and aerial survey, seismo - survey) essentially will increase efficiency of works on searching of new oil deposits.
