Project summaryEnvironmental control is now a very important problem worldwide, because of large scale production activity of human society, which increases the danger of accidents with harmful influence on the environment. There are now a lot of nuclear, chemical and power production facilities around the world and there is a possibility of such accidents there. It is possible to reduce consequences of such accidents by establishment of a continuous monitoring of parameters of the atmosphere near such facilities. The information on the atmosphere state allows to predict the area size and the level of pollution in case of accidents.
The problems related to the project will be solved with the help of most modern achievements in the field of microwave semiconductor devices, using modern technological equipment. Such facilities and equipment are available at Scientific Research Institute "Pulsar". The project team has a good experience in the development of the microwave components for space research in Space Research Institute, Russian Academy of Sciences. The accumulated experience of the specialists will be used for development and production of the needed instrumentation. The available experience of CAO and Space Research Institute specialists will be used for the field tests and for the software development. The CAO specialists will also develop the technical requirements to the complex. "Pulsar" and Space Research Institute will be responsible for the production of the first two industrial prototypes of the equipment.
The project will result in the development and production of two microwave complexes that will be tested in the field. Such a complex will be able to predict the development of the situation after an accident at the industrial facilities. The developed measurement system will be much less expensive compared to the conventional meteorological tower.
