Project summaryA modular gas turbine helium reactor (GT-MHR) represents supersafe and environmentally clean source of electric energy which:
- has passive safety and is capable to produce electric energy with efficacy of 50% at a cost lower than with other existing and advanced nuclear power stations;
- is capable to use as fuel weapons grade plutonium with a depth of its burnup of up to 95%;
- has two times less thermal releases and high active waste than LWR NPPs of the same reactor power.
The goal of conceptual design is carrying out design works for technico-economical substantiation of the project. As a result of conceptual project development the feasibility will be shown of GT-MHR creation having high technico-economical and ecological indexes.
The scope of work on the project involves the development of reactor plant and its main components; fuel assemblies, reactor core, re-fuelling system, CPS drives, vessels, helium turbine, compressors, generator, heat removal equipment. On the present stage the volume, time schedule and cost of further works will be specified.
The present work promotes the solution of technical problems associated with creation of environmentally clean energy sources on the basis of nuclear power plants, promotes sustaining high qualification of specialists engaged and corresponds to the 1STC goals and tasks.
The OKBM has large experience and high qualification concerning development of reactors for ships, reactors for nuclear stations, heat-electricity generation plants and district heating plants. In designing the project calculationa1 investigations. standard methods and experience obtained with OKBM experimental rigs will be used. The calculation analysis will be performed with account of approved programs on the basis of computers. Hence, the positive result can be achieved within the time specified.
