Project summaryThe objectives of the project are:
- creation of new type of laser for laser technology - multibeam waveguide СО-laser excited by capacitive ac-discharge;
- development of effective methods of phase locking of multibeam gas-discharge lasers and multibeam laser systems with nuclear pump;
- investigation of fundamental problems of lasers dynamics and dynamics of laser arrays.
The problem of obtaining of powerful high quality laser radiation now is actual and has a great Importance for development of laser technique and laser technology. Creation of multibeam lasers is one of the perspective direction in solution of this problem. Multichannel (multibeam) design of powerful lasers has unique particular feature: at power Increase by taking from increase of number of lasers in an array, quality of radiation remains unchanged. It allows to increase proportionally to N (here N - is the number of channels) not only the power, but the power density on the target too. Further increase of power density is possible at condition of phase locking of laser array. In that case power density increases proportionally to N2.
Project authors had developed and created powerful high-efficient multibeam CO2-lasers excited by capacitive ac-discharge and multibeam nuclear-pumped lasers, they adjusted mass production of multibeam CO2-lasers with power equal to 2 kW. Pioneer works on phase locking of multibeam lasers and on investigation of the problem of dynamical chaos in lasers were carried out too. Created experimental base, developed diagnostics and methods of investigations allow us to solve successfully proposed tasks.
The results of the works on the project will have found application at investigation of fundamental problems of laser physics and at solution of practical tasks of laser thermal technology. Furthermore, Improvement of radiation quality of developed multibeam lasers and creation of multibeam СО-laser has both practical and commercial Importance.
The works of project authors are well known both in Russia and other countries. We set scientific cooperation with scientific groups from Italy, France, Germany, and USA, POLAND. These groups support our investigations. Groups from National Optical Institute (Italy) and from Laboratory of Applied Optics (France) made an agreement to participate in the project. Common discussion of results obtained at carrying out of investigations of laser arrays phase locking and laser generation dynamics is being planned.
