Project summary

The first stage of NPS dismantling process is the development of Package of Design and Procedural Documents (PDPD) with EIA document included.

Now EIA document is sufficiently developed with the observation of proper procedures for every NPS but it takes much time and demands round financial assets. The most part of EIA Document is not changed significantly irrespective of NPS Project.

The objective of the Project is the development of standard parts and procedure of EIA of NPS dismantling for Zvezdochka and Nerpa Shipyards.

In this case the EIA is made for unfavorable conditions of NPS dismantling i.e. for maximum load of Yards by dismantling the most powerful NPS

Onega R&D Technological Bureau is the leading institution of the Project.

Project duration is 24 months.

“Weapon” specialists from Zvezdochka, Onega, Nerpa and IGEM RAS having great experience in EIA will be engaged in the Project.

The following foreign companies are proposed to participate in the Project as collaborators:

Nuclear Safety Solutions Limited (NSS), Canada.

Following tasks will be solved under the Project development:

Development of standard part of EIA Document (General Chapter) for Zvezdochka and Nerpa Shipyards on the basis of the environmental conditions analysis;

Development of standard part of EIA Document (Assessment of Chemical Factors of Environmental Impact) for Zvezdochka and Nerpa;

Development of standard part of EIA Document (Assessment of Radiation Factors of Environmental Impact) for Zvezdochka and Nerpa;

Preparation of methodology of EIA documents development of NPS dismantling for Zvezdochka and Nerpa Shipyards with taken standard parts and the Russian and foreign regulatory documents requirements into account.

The execution of the research and the realization of the Project’s proposals should make it possible to unify the development of NPS dismantling projects development, to speed up the fulfillment of the international obligations concerning NPS dismantling by Russia, to reduce the level of potential nuclear and radiation danger in the North – West region. It is up to the ISTC’s objectives and tasks.
