Project summary

The goal of this project is the creation of a test model of complex installation for radioactive metal waste treatment, which is formed during exploitation or removing out of exploitation of NFS with various types of reactors as domestic as well as foreign ones and other radiation dangerous objects. The installation will make it possible to obtain decontaminated metal ingots suitable for immediate recurring use in industry or after certain maintenance in opentype storehouse.During the execution of the project there will be polished up to the level of industrial equipment the complex technology of radioactive metal waste treatment, including profound decontamination by special chemical agents, intermediate radiation monitoring for metal decontamination, remelting of decontaminated metal with special fluxes use and ingots radiation monitoring in the end.

On the basis of obtained results there will be elaborated design solutions and design documentation for non-standard eqiupment, created and tested the test models of installation.

Scientific significance of the project is in the fact, that there will be developped physico-chemical process that have no analogs in world-over practice and enabling economic (minimum of secondary waste) to refine radioactive metal waste up to the levels, allowing recurring use of treated metal in industry, ensure ecological safety under secondary unlimited utilization of refined metal. .Commercial significance of the project is in creation of project-designing documentation for the installation of radioactive metal waste treatment and test-model installation which enables to transform radioactive waste in radiation safety metal, suitable for sale.

During execution of the project it is expected to conduct investigation and tests with real radioactive metal waste in order to determinate optimal parameters and profound decontamination and remelting processes, to carry out calculations and measurements for substantiation of authenticity of methods of metal's radioactive contamination control, to obtain initial data for constructing. On the basis of obtained data it has been planned to develop technological scheme of waste treatment and task for elaboration of non-stsndard equipment, to manufacture and test installations'test models.

Testing, researches and test models of installations will be carried out with equipment of bench and tool laboratory base of SRI "VNIPIET" and CMEDO-2.

Specialists of military-industrial complex and atomic industry enterprises will be drawn into execution of the project. Received experience during the work under project will enable them to adapt for the work on peaceful projects in market economy conditions.
