On the occasion of it’s 25th Anniversary the International Science and Technology Center announces an Award for Young Scientists.

The objective of this Award is to encourage young scientists, researchers and engineers to undertake outstanding work in the field of World and Regional Security issues.

  • World and regional security issue includes non-proliferation of WMD (Weapon of Mass Destruction) / CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear), control of WMD/CBRN related materials, and/or dual use goods, materials or technologies and information.
  • Outstanding work includes Research & Development achievements and/or efforts for enhancing security culture regarding use of technology and information etc.



  1. Award target is to be based on a White Paper / Policy Paper on what is envisaged as a “Future Threat” on Security in Central Asia related to CBRN issues and hazards and what may be currently missing.
  2. CBRN can also include such areas as climate change and environment, water resource and food related security risks and threats, and cyber security.
  3. The Paper should clearly describe what will be the landscape issues and threats facing Central Asia foreseen in the future.
  4. There should be a definition of these threats, risks and risk mitigation.
  5. There must be a justification based upon current background information on the topic that is to be justified and as such the author need to describe the surrounding science to be developed if relevant.
  6. There should be a threat fact assessment and a probability risk assessment.
  7. As regards to the risk mitigation and solution the author must advise as regards the opportunities, recommendations, and to carry out an impact assessment on those recommendations as a “Pathway” to risk mitigation, then also how to realize such recommendations that will address the security threat problem.
  8. The Author must also describe how these recommendations will be communicated and recommended to Government Authorities.
  9. The Recommendations should be put forward in the form of a summary as standard and as though it is to be put forward and presented to Government ministers.


Conditions for Participation:

  1. The Award is open to all nationalities but with special emphasis on scientists and researchers in the ISTC Member Countries (Armenia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan).
  2. Young means people who are under 30 years old at the time of nomination.
  3. The Paper should be written in English
  4. Such work shall be no more than 5 pages of A4. However, appendices on research can be separate, but not more than one page.
  5. Papers, documents etc which are submitted to and or awarded by other international prize givers will not be eligible.
  6. Above submission needs to be accompanied by a summary and a concise curriculum vitae of the author and a passport copy (as proof of identity and age).
  7. Your Work should be sent by email to; submission to be received by 30th September 2019.




  1. The ISTC will award 3 Winners. The Awards will consist of certificate and travel expenses for the winners to participate in a relevant International Seminar / Conference or visit an Institute or University - with a monetary value of 5,000, 3,000 and 2,000 USD respective for the first, second and third place.
  2. Additionally 3 separate Awards will be presented to the 3 best Georgian submitted papers, sponsored by the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation (SRNSF).
  3. Also separately the Japan ISTC member party will sponsor a Scientific Travel Mission to Japan for 1 week for up to 5 Award Winners.


Details of the Announcements of the various Award Winners will be published on the ISTC web site later during 2019 along with details of the Award presentations and ceremony on the occasion of ISTC’s 25th Anniversary celebrations to be held at the End of 2019.
